Get to know your sewing machine at our sewing machine masterclass 
A complete introduction to sewing on a machine. 
We will cover threading, overview of stitches, and basic maintenance. 
There will be lots of time for you to practice and build your confidence before we start our project to make a tote bag. 
Walk away with an envelope cushion and lots of inspiration to use your new skills!

All materials are included in this 3hr workshop, and small group sizes mean you get loads of personal tuition.

Our Sewing Machine Masterclass is run in group workshops, available on a variety of dates and times. 

If you cannot attend the upcoming available dates we have a 'Private' booking option. This is a little misleading! It used to be called a 'flexitime' option and in essence means that if you have a group of 2-7 people you can book a private session at a time to suit you. 

If you would prefer a private session we do also have a 'Private Sewing Class' workshop available which is an individual private lesson and costs £60 for 2hrs.

I attended an Begineer's class and how to use my sewing machine.It  was great expereince and got exactly what I wanted to learn from this class and feel more confident with my sewing machine.  The teacher was absoluately fantastic to say the least, extremely informative, patient, friendly and made you feel at ease.A lovely  bright and comfortable  venue.

Rachel was such a great teacher, she went through every detail step by step. so it never felt overwhelming. By the end of the session I was surprised at how confident I felt with a sewing machine and  my sewing skills were surprisingly not too bad. I signed up to this class as It was a long time since I used a sewing machine and wanted to start sewing again.  I felt a bit apprehensive at first  l but I need not have worried as Janice put us all at ease and was very helpful if we were stuck at any point.  

We practiced on paper that had patterns such as hearts, and mazes  so that we could become familiar with the sewing machine. We went onto practising on pieces of material before finally taking the plunge to make a tote bag.   Janice guided us through each stage of the process and before  we knew it we had all completed our bags!  I was very proud of what I achieved and know I can go back and start using my sewing machine which has been  sitting at home doing nothing.    

I would highly recommend this class to anyone who is thinking of taking up machine sewing  for the first time or even if they have not done any sewing for a while.

My husband booked the first workshop (Make A Bag) of this 4 week course as a present. Having only done limited sewing whilst at school, I found the class a great introduction into learning how to use the sewing machine and using basic stitches.  We were also given paper templates and scrap fabric in order to get used to using the machine and to practice sewing with different stitches and experience how to handle the fabric when sewing in straight lines, around curves and changing directions. By the end of the class, I came away with a beautiful shopping bag that was going to come in handy and that I felt very proud of.  

Rachel was very friendly, approachable and knowledgeable. All materials were provided and the studio was well equipped with everything you would need (including tea and biscuits!). We had a group of five people which was nice as it was a friendly environment that everyone felt they could ask questions as we went along or general tips and advice on sewing. The studio is a great space which also showcases items that have been made in other classes.  There’s so many other art/craft classes that I now want to try! 

I found the first workshop and my experience very inspiring and this led me to book the other 3 workshops on this course: Making a zipped Make up bag, Make A Cushion Cover with Piping, and Make Pyjama Bottoms. I have thoroughly enjoyed all these workshops (not to mention using my creations!) and my sewing confidence has increased during the course. I would recommend this to anyone interested in sewing or looking to learn some new skills.

Beginners Sewing Course - Bags and Bits

Made a shopping bag, a zipped make up bag, a piped cushion cover with a concealed zip and a pair of pyjama bottoms! Quite an achievement considering the fact I had never used a sewing machine before.
Rachel is a gifted teacher with endless patience for beginners. She is a fountain of knowledge and always helfpul and smiling.

This class is a great introduction  for those who have recently bought or are thinking about buying a sewing machine for themselves or their child! Of Course dad's, grandparents, carers and aunties are all welcome too!
It is really important as  your child learns to sew, to have an adult who has some knowledge of the machine to be able to assist your child when stuck and also so you can get the most enjoyment out of using the machine yourself! It is also just as important to be confident that your child is able to use the machine properly!
During the workshop we will  work on sewing confidence, basic skills, threading and basic maintenance before completing a project so you go home beaming with pride!

You are welcome to bring your own machine but we do supply machines for all students.

This class is aimed at Parent and Child pair groups and is suitable for children age 7+
